A very soft launch
Saturday 7 February 2026. An odd textual exchange makes me once again question the future of Trip By Trip, which I run with someone else. Fears of TBT getting deleted aren't exactly new. Since November 2025, it has been on my mind.
While I used to think "if Trip By Trip disappears or gets deleted, I won't start a new blog", that Saturday morning at the gym I decided that no, Trip By Trip won't be my last stance in blogging.
It's 2026 and blogging has been declared dead for a while. But writing and publishing has been a pastime for me since I was 20-ish. And as a child and teen I drew.
On the About page - which I still have to write - you can read a sort of resumé. Some people read, others watch films and shows. In my spare time, I blog. As a single man, it's also a way to share parts of my life.
So while 'blogging is dead', and indeed the internet is not the same anymore as in 2020, 2015, 2010, 2005..., there are still people out there who write and publish online in their spare time or as a (partial) livelihood.
Sidetrack?
Today, Sunday 8 February 2026, I haven't decided yet what this blog, Sidetrack, will become. A supplement to Trip By Trip? A backup? A replacement? A successor? All of the above?
I'm also switching from WordPress to Ghost via Magical Pages. I've been using WordPress for twenty years. Yes, twenty years. I like its community of followers, its likes and its pingbacks. But as Ghost pitches it, WordPress is perhaps now too big.
So Im giving Ghost via Magical Pages a go.
Sidetrack
The genesis of Sidetrack happened during a Saturday morning gym session. While working out, I decided to continue blogging and decided on the name.
Why Sidetrack? I got sidetracked by someone else, I also get sidetracked as in my thoughts wander and wonder. It's also a side activity next to Trip By Trip. But the name also refers to trains and tracks. And I'm mostly a side. If you don't know what that is, Google it.
I was in doubt between Sidetrack and Sidetracked, but I think Sidetrack is more active.
For now
For now, Sidetrack will be an extra to Trip By Trip. I'm not transferring TBT's content just yet, but will in the future. When? I don't know.
